As part of the activities of the Association of the Department of Psychology, a programme titled “Music Therapy” was organized for the students of the Department of Psychology on 2 February 2026. The programme was designed as an experiential session, providing students with an opportunity to personally experience the therapeutic effects of music rather than simply learning about the theoretical aspects of music therapy. The session was conducted by Ms. Deepika K, Music Therapist, Consultant Psychologist, and Sports Psychologist, who has been associated with major sporting events and programmes including the National Games and Khelo India. During the session, the resource person guided the students through a music-based therapeutic experience. The carefully facilitated musical activities created a calm and emotionally engaging environment, allowing students to connect with their feelings and inner experiences. Rather than being a conventional awareness session, the programme enabled students to experience music as a medium for emotional expression, relaxation, and psychological well-being. The session had a notable emotional impact on the participants. Several students became emotional during and following the music therapy experience, reflecting the depth of personal engagement created by the session. The experience provided students with an opportunity to pause from their routine academic activities, connect with their emotions, and experience the potential of music as a therapeutic medium. The programme was particularly meaningful for psychology students as it provided a direct experiential understanding of how therapeutic interventions can influence emotional experiences. It also helped students appreciate the importance of experiential and creative approaches in promoting psychological well-being. The programme concluded successfully with active participation and positive engagement from the students. The emotional responses observed among the participants demonstrated the profound personal impact of the session and made the programme a memorable and enriching experience for the students of the Department of Psychology.
