Profile

The Department of Mass Communication covers a wide range of disciplines, beginning with the foundational concepts of mass media and communication and gradually expanding into various specialized areas of the field. The programme offers students broad exposure to media industries through practical assignments, industry interaction, and media research training. It emphasizes analytical and historical perspectives to help students understand the evolution and functioning of media systems.

The programme aims to develop students’ ability to critically assess the roles, functions, and effects of mass media on society and everyday life. It equips students with essential media production skills through extensive hands-on training in various communication platforms. The curriculum begins with providing a strong foundation by introducing students to the history, structure, values, and growth of mass communication in India and across the world.

Students are further trained to analyze the influence of print, electronic, and digital media, enabling them to understand media effects on public opinion and policy-making, as well as the influence of public policies on media operations. Along with core academic courses, students are required to undergo internships in mainstream media organizations and actively participate in media production projects, ensuring industry exposure and professional skill development.

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at M.E.S Kalladi College, Mannarkkad was established in 2015 with the aim of providing quality media education and professional training. The department focuses on developing skilled, ethical, and socially responsible media professionals capable of contributing effectively to the communication industry.

The department integrates theoretical knowledge with practical media exposure across various domains such as print journalism, broadcast journalism, digital media, advertising, public relations, and filmmaking, The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, creative storytelling, multimedia production, and professional ethics to meet the demands of the rapidly evolving media landscape.
