The Department of history is an illumined faculty of MES Kalladi College with reputed tradition of its own. This department has a major role in uplifting the social and educational status of the people of Mannarkkad. The history of the department goes to the very inception of the college in 1967. The first Principal of this college, Dr. Ibrahim Kunju was a historian. The Degree course in history was started in 1971/72 & Post Graduation in 1983/84.  In 2016 the department is upgraded as a research Centre.  At present three research guides are working in the Research Centre and 12 research scholars completed their Ph.D. Registration. The department have excellent archaeological museum and megalithic museum. History provides a store of knowledge on the past and helps individuals and students to know their political, economic, social and cultural roots. The Department of History inculcates the values of past culture and tradition. Besides, imparting historical knowledge, the department focusing on imparting education to a socially backward region. Presently it is one of the best departments under the University of Calicut with lot of research activities and projects.
