Advancing Knowledge in Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences

Overview

Profile

The Department of Psychology at MES Kalladi College, Mannarkkad, established in 2021, offers a five-year Integrated UG–PG Programme designed to meet the growing societal demand for competent mental health professionals. This integrated structure merges undergraduate and postgraduate studies into a single, continuous academic pathway, enabling students to gain comprehensive and in-depth knowledge while avoiding fragmentation in learning.

The programme is grounded in the scientific study of behavior and cognitive processes, drawing from social sciences, natural sciences, and the humanities. It focuses on understanding human behavior, mental functions, and their underlying physiological and neurobiological mechanisms. Students are introduced to key psychological domains such as cognition, emotion, personality, motivation, interpersonal relationships, and mental health, using both empirical and applied approaches.

A distinctive feature of the programme is its pragmatist and experiential orientation. The curriculum integrates theory with practical exposure through fieldwork, research, and applied learning, fostering critical thinking, analytical reasoning, problem-solving ability, and self-directed learning—essential 21st-century skills. It also emphasizes cultural awareness and holistic development, encouraging students to apply psychological principles for personal growth, professional practice, and societal well-being.

The programme equips learners to understand the clinical spectrum of mental and behavioral disorders and to function effectively as behavioral analysts and mental health professionals. It nurtures leadership, ethical responsibility, and research competence, preparing graduates for roles in clinical practice, research, teaching, and policy-making. Ultimately, the department aims to create insightful, resilient individuals committed to promoting mental well-being and contributing meaningfully to society through knowledge, service, and innovation.
