Programme Overview

MCom

The Master of Commerce (M.Com) programme is a two-year postgraduate course designed to develop advanced knowledge and analytical skills in commerce, finance, and management. Structured under the Choice Based Credit Semester System (CBCSS), the programme integrates Outcome-Based Education to ensure practical and industry-relevant learning.

The curriculum covers core areas such as accounting, finance, taxation, business environment, strategic management, and research methodology, along with specialized electives in Finance, Marketing, Human Resource Management, and Foreign Trade. The programme emphasizes quantitative techniques, data analysis, and decision-making skills, supported by tools like SPSS and Excel.

Students are provided with opportunities for experiential learning through internships, case studies, projects, and industry visits. The inclusion of professional competency and skill-based audit courses enhances employability and entrepreneurial capabilities.

The programme also focuses on research aptitude, culminating in a project work and comprehensive viva voce. Overall, the M.Com programme aims to prepare students for careers in academia, research, corporate sectors, and professional fields by equipping them with theoretical depth, practical exposure, and critical thinking skills.


Eligibility Criteria

Candidates seeking admission to the M.Com programme must have passed a B.Com, BBA (earlier BBS), or an equivalent degree from the University of Calicut or any other university/institution recognized by UGC/AICTE and approved by the University of Calicut, with a minimum of 45% marks or equivalent grade.

For candidates holding B.Com (Honours) or B.Com (Professional) degrees, a minimum of 50% marks is required.

Relaxation in minimum marks is applicable for OBC and SC/ST candidates as per the rules of the University of Calicut.
