Programme Overview

M.Sc Forensic Science

The M.Sc. Forensic Science program provides comprehensive knowledge of Forensic Science, emphasizing core areas such as Forensic chemistry, biology, Digital Forensics, toxicology, crime scene investigation, and Forensic psychology. The curriculum combines theoretical learning with practical sessions, laboratory techniques, and research methodology, ensuring students gain hands-on experience. Elective courses in specialized fields like Fingerprint and Questioned Documents, Forensic Chemistry and Pharmacology prepare students for diverse career opportunities in Forensic Science, law enforcement, and academic research. With a strong interdisciplinary approach, the program equips students with the skills necessary to handle real-world Forensic investigations and contribute to the criminal justice system.  

Eligibility Criteria

  • A B.Sc. Degree in Forensic Science, Forensic Science & Criminology, B.Voc. Forensic Science, Applied Microbiology & Forensic Science, or relevant degrees such as B.Sc. Zoology, Botany, Chemistry, Physics, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Genetics, B.Tech. Computer Science, Information Technology, BCA, B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Sc. Information Technology, with at least 60% marks or equivalent grades from a recognized university.
  • OBC/OEC candidates are eligible for a relaxation of up to 5%.
  • SC/ST candidates need only a pass grade.

Admission Procedure:
Admission to the program is entrance-based. Candidates must appear for an entrance examination, and those who qualify will be ranked based on their entrance test scores.

Understand the principles, scope and legal foundations of Forensic Science and apply scientific reasoning in criminal investigations.

Understand the identification, collection, preservation and proper handling of physical evidence while maintaining chain of custody.

Understand the different fields of Forensic Science and their applications in crime scene investigation.

PSO4

Perform laboratory procedures in various Forensic divisions using standard protocols and modern techniques.

PSO5

Apply forensic medicine, serology, DNA, toxicology and analytical chemistry principles to interpret scientific findings in criminal cases.

Apply laboratory quality management systems, research methodology and statistical tools for Forensic data analysis and evidence evaluation.

PSO7

Prepare scientific reports and present expert opinions in court while maintaining professional ethics.
