Overview

The Centre for Research in Developmental Economics, functioning under the Department of Economics, is a dedicated research unit that promotes advanced research and academic excellence in developmental economics. It provides a platform for faculty members, research scholars, and students to engage in meaningful research addressing key socio-economic challenges. The Centre emphasizes both theoretical and empirical studies, contributing to policy discussions and sustainable development.

Its mission is to promote high-quality and impactful research, address contemporary socio-economic issues through evidence-based studies, and foster a strong research culture among students and scholars. It also aims to contribute to policy formulation, enrich academic discourse, and build collaborations with academic institutions and research organizations.

The Centre focuses on diverse research areas, including public policy and governance, gender and development, health and education economics, financial inclusion and microfinance, regional development studies, poverty and inequality, rural and agricultural development, sustainable development and environmental economics, labour economics and the informal sector, and migration studies.

Strategically, the Centre emphasizes strengthening policy-oriented research, increasing publications in reputed journals, promoting funded research and collaborations, organizing workshops, seminars, and training programmes, encouraging student-led research, and establishing partnerships with government and non-government organizations.
