The Department of English, established in 1967, has been a vital part of the institution, fostering excellence in language, literature, and critical inquiry. The undergraduate programme, introduced in 2014, was restructured into a Four-Year Undergraduate Programme in 2024 in line with national educational reforms. The department offers a major in English Language and Literature, focusing on linguistic competence, literary appreciation, and analytical skills. It also provides a multidisciplinary course, Introducing Travel and Digital Narratives, which explores contemporary storytelling and cultural representation.
To enhance employability, the department offers certificate courses in Communicative English, Content Writing, Academic Writing, and Film Studies, bridging academic learning with practical skills. The Polyglot Academy, in collaboration with Lanstitute, Bangalore, offers foreign language training in French, German, and Spanish, promoting global competence.
Literary engagement is encouraged through Litmuse, the English Club, and the annual magazine Splash, showcasing student creativity. Guided by its vision, the department nurtures critical thinking, communication skills, and global awareness, while its mission focuses on expanding knowledge, strengthening literary analysis, and fostering critical reading, writing, and creative expression.
